Day 30
An easy going day, with this amazing sunset, all I could think of is "all is well"
I am grateful for days like this.

Cedar Waxwings
Day 29
I love Cedar Waxwings. I saw them for the fist time 2 years ago, quite by accident. I didn't know what they were. They remind me of little masked bandits, with a black band across their eyes. They also have beautiful colors. This year, I had not seen any, until today.
I am grateful that I left work when I did , because they were all setting in a tree right where I was parked. They were eating the berries on the crabapple trees and were there just long enough for me to get a few pics!

A relaxing day
Day 28
Today was one of those days that gave me rest. I really didn't do much, except things that really needed to be done. I am grateful to be able to take the time to reflect on the peace around me.
This view is a perfect example of a perfect ending to a lovely day!

A meaningful gift
Day 27
I am so grateful for the wonderful people that I work with in my salon. They are very caring, talented hairstylists. They make everyday a joy. I think that is one reason I love doing what I do.
This lovely, sterling silver necklace was given to me for Christmas by all of them. It is a replica of the Old Man of the Mountain, in Franconia, NH. It has special meaning to me, for one reason because I went to Franconia the day after the Old Man fell. I was so inspired by the feelings of the people that were there that day, who were so devastated by the loss of New Hampshire's icon. When I went home I created a painting of "The Spirit of the Old Man of the Mountain", which was his image in a cloud above the perch from which he fell.
I drive up there as often as I can to enjoy the beauty of the mountains that surround that whole area.
I will always treasure this lovely gift.

Celebrating a bucket list item
Day 26
After a busy day today, I had no time to make dinner. I decided to pick a pizza and some calamari at a local restaurant. When I got home, I thought it was time to open a bottle of wine I purchased in Italy, while vacationing there this past June. I can't believe I have not opened any of that wine until tonight. We had gone to a wonderful winery in Montalcino, called Tenuta Fanti. Such incredible memories!
The photo in the background was taken on that trip in Florence, with a view of the Arno River and the Ponte Vecchio.
I am so grateful for being able to travel to such a wonderful country. I will save the rest of the wine for another day, and re-live the magic of Italy!

Glowing sunset
Day 25
I am really grateful tonight, that I waited until the sun set to see the transformation. The sunset was nice, but about 15 minutes later the sky put on a show! Red, pink and purple swept across the sky, reflecting onto the frozen lake. The ice was so smooth, that the reflection was like a mirror, doubling the color impact. It only lasted a few minutes, then faded.
What a great way to end the day!

Finally Ice!
Day 24
What a gorgeous, sunny day today! Cold temps and no wind, perfect conditions to make ice. Everywhere I went today, the ice on Lake Winniesaukee is finally starting to catch. Some places are so smooth, a perfect place to ice skate! It needs to be a little thicker, but it won't be long.
Mt. Washington was just glowing in the background. I'm always grateful for these days.

Backyard Friends
Day 23
I thought my favorite birds had left for the winter. But, today, when I looked out my window, there they were, Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal! So colorful, they couldn't be missed. I'm grateful that they decided to hang around!
They certainly brighten up a drab and dreary day!

Lunar Halo
Day 22
What a great sight tonight! As I was leaving work, I noticed a faint circle around the moon. I drove to Lake Winnipesaukee, by Governor's Island to get a better view. I was not disappointed! So grateful to witness this phenomena.
Sometimes called a moon ring or winter halo, it's formed from ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere, refracted by the sunlight.
The halo was quite large. It has also been an early warning of a storm coming!

Hawk Beauty
Day 21
A beautiful, sunny, cold day today. I was hoping to see some wildlife in my travels, and just as I turned the corner, there was this handsome red-tailed hawk sitting in a tree, sunning himself.
Even though I was quite a distance from him, I know from previous experience, that as long as I sit in my car, he will sit in the tree. I changed the settings in my camera before I opened the car door, because I knew he would fly with any movement. Sure enough, the minute I got my camera focused on him, off he flew! I'm grateful that I was able to get this shot.
For some reason, this month I have seen many, many hawks in my travels. I am always impressed by their strength and beauty!

Dance Party
Day 20
Tonight, I got invited to a dance party with my two granddaughters! With the party lights whirling on the ceiling, and the music cranked, Annie and Maddy twirled, jumped and wiggled to the beat!
They were really have fun, dancing around their father, who was teaching them all the moves.
I'm so grateful that I was able to "attend" through the computer screen!
They sure do know how to party! :)

What a way to start the day!
Day 19
I love the fact that I can drive to work, and take many different routes to get there. Today I chose to take the high road, and catch this amazing view! I always feel grateful that I live in such a beautiful place. To see this type of scene every morning, is such a blessing. How could I ever have a bad day after starting it like this!

Sky Flames
Day 18
Today, I was out this morning and this evening taking photos. Not for a long time, but stopped a few places on my way to do errands. It was snowing off and on, and the sun was trying to peek through the clouds. I captured a cool picture of a seagull, and some more ice crystals. I had to do another errand, and it was here that the sky burst into color. I am grateful that I went out one more time. It looked like flames shooting out from this tree. So bright, so beautiful. It only lasted a few minutes, then it faded.

Like A Fairy Tale
Day 17
I took a ride today to the north country. I am grateful that my brother, Greg, was willing to tag along.
We drove to Franconia, Berlin, Shelburne and all around the Mt. Washington area. I was looking for a grove of white birch trees. We came across this property that was totally made from stone. The big house, garage, barn, and this adorable, small building, that looks like a doll house, were all made from stone. After some research, I found out the property was built in 1888. Birch trees surrounded the property, along with fantastic views of the mountains.
How lucky are we to live in such a picturesque state!
Winter Beauty
Day 16
Many people complain about the cold weather, snow and ice that come in winter. I am grateful for the beauty that it also brings.
Since the lakes are not frozen yet, stark reflections create beautiful scenes throughout the area.
When I see a view, such as this, it brings a peaceful feeling.
Every day is a gift.
Veal Masala
Day 15
Long, busy day at work. I am so grateful for a wonderful gift certificate I received as a gift from one of my clients, to one of my favorite restaurants.
On my way home, I stopped to pick up this delicious veal masala. A perfect way to end my day!

End of a busy day
Day 13
I did go out this morning to capture the sunrise, and it was ok, not the wow I was hoping for.
From there I went to work, where I was busy doing hair.
I am so grateful for the career I chose as a hairdresser. My days are always filled with creative endeavors, such as hair coloring, cutting and styling. But more than that are the people I have the pleasure of servicing! We have great customers that make our day!
This was a quick shot, taken with my phone, as the day came to an end.

Morning Gift
Day 12
I hope you were up early enough to catch this beautiful sunrise.
I had a feeling the sky would be colorful, because of the cloud cover. I went out in search of the right spot to catch it, and thought I had missed it. Suddenly the sky just burst with pink, purple, yellow and red. I am grateful that I was able to capture this scene before the snow arrives.
I hope your day is as awesome as this sky!

Crystals from Nature
Day 11
Why would anyone be grateful for wind, rain and freezing temps?
I would! Look what nature has done with this plain old bush, that sits on the shore of the lake!
With the right conditions, art is formed out of nothing.
I was trying to take a photo of the sunset at the lake, when I spotted something glistening on the ground. I walked over and was so struck by the beauty of all the branches that hung over the water.
It looked like a master sculptor spent many days creating all this work of art.
Beauty is around us everywhere. All you have to do is look for it!

The Painter
Day 10
When he was just a toddler, my son Jim showed a creative talent for drawing. From that point on, he only wanted to be an artist when he grew up. As he matured, that desire grew, earning 2 masters degrees and a bachelor's degree in fine art.
Among his accomplishments as an art teacher, art professor, commissioned painter and lecturer,
today we attended a juried art exhibit, of which he was accepted. The opening reception was a huge success at the famous New Britain Museum of American Art, in New Britain Connecticut. I am grateful that he followed his passion!

Little Meatball Makers
Day 9
I am so grateful to be able to spend time with our grandchildren! My two granddaughters, Annie and Maddy, love eating meatballs and (noodles). I decided rather than make them and bring them to their house, I would let them help me make them.
After getting the ingredients mixed, they eagerly began to roll them into little balls. Maddy decided to make a meatball snowman. They had great fun and ate everything they made!

Hooray for Face Time
Day 8
I am so grateful my son will Face Time us a few times a week. It keeps us connected with his family, and especially our grandchildren.
Here, our newest grandson Luca, is interacting with his mom, and talking to us! He is only 9 weeks old and already following in his sisters footsteps!

Hawk Eye
Day 7
I love wildlife and am always on the lookout for birds and animals in my area. For some reason, the last few weeks they seem to be hiding.
Today, while out doing errands, I stopped to get something to drink at a fast food restaurant. I decided to pull into a parking spot and sit a minute. Just then, I spotted a beautiful red-tailed hawk across the street at the top of a huge pine tree. He sat there looking around, while a seagull kept circling around him squawking.
I was grateful that I had my camera with me, (as usual), and got a few good shots. I drove out, just as the hawk left. Fortunately, he landed on a tree very close to the road, and I took a few more pics.
Such a magnificent bird!

The Golden Ticket
Day 6
Big Dreams. I've been visualizing my new oceanfront cottage, my cabin in the woods with a mountain view, and my next fabulous vacation!
I've made a list of all the people I will help by paying off their mortgage, their debts, or buy them a new car. I will set up a trust fund for family, and help those who have nothing.
These are some of my dreams, a well as millions of others have tonight, as they stand in line to purchase the Golden Ticket-Powerball lottery, with a value tonight of over $450 million!
In reality, I am grateful for my humble home, my ability to drive to the ocean and mountains to get my fix of sea air and nature. I guess I don't mind saving up for my next vacation, because it makes it all the more meaningful, knowing I earned it. I will help anyone I can right now, if it's something in my power to do.
Now that I think of it, my world is already rich! God has blessed me with an incredible family, good health and great friends. He has given me a creative mind and appreciation for the beauty in the world around me. He has shown me the riches that are right in from of me, all for free!
What is the worth of a star filled night sky, reflections in a quiet pond, or the ocean waves lapping a sand filled beach. How much would you pay for the love of a child, a smile from a stranger, a loving hug from a friend, or your dog meeting you at the door when you get home. Is the Golden Ticket worth more than this? Even if none of my numbers come out tonight, when the lottery is drawn, I have already won!

Angry Birds
Day 3
In a way, I was grateful that the New England Patriots football team were losing, because it forced me to grab my camera and head to the lake for a sunset shot. If the game were more interesting, I would have watched it until the end and missed it.
I got to the lake just as the sun was setting. I set up my shot and all of a sudden dozens of seagulls were flying in a frenzy. They flew in a big circle, back and forth in front of the sunset. I have never seen so many in this area. Squawking and flying up and down. I was confused, wondering what they were doing. It was at that moment I realized they must have been upset because the Patriots must have lost. I turned the radio on and sure enough they broadcast the final score 10-20 against the Miami Dolphins!
I'm sorry for Patriots fans, but happy I caught the sunset!

Day 2
Seacoast Joy
After spending the afternoon driving along the NH coast with my daughter and son in law, searching for Snowy Owls, we ended up in Portsmouth. I love the feel of Portsmouth. It brings me back to a peaceful time, especially at Strawbery Banke. The history, the ambience, and now the ice skating rink, at Puddle Dock Pond.
Many people enjoying the day, skating round and round with many children in tow. Even though I don't think I should attempt ice skating anymore, I am grateful for the opportunity to sit back and watch others!
We did not see any owls, but still a beautiful day!

A Year Of Being Grateful
I have decided that this year, 2016, I will photograph and post something I am grateful for, every day.
I know that some days it will be harder than others, but since I have been photographing something every day for the past 3 years, I have decided to give it a try.
Day 1
"God Rays" is the term some people have given sun rays, such as these. They say these rays are a symbol of spirits, those who have passed. It's suppose to be a heavenly message that all is well.
With that in mind, I am thinking of 3 people in my life, who have passed away these last few weeks, 2 who were family members.
I am grateful for knowing them and enjoyed the love they showed for all around them. Cousin Fran, Aunt Ann, and friend Donald. People who made a difference in our world. May they all rest in peace.
